HR Keynote: Getting The C-Suite’s Attention: 7 Strategies For Moving From HR Leader to Business Leader
In today’s highly competitive business world, it seems that almost every Human Resources leader is striving to be considered “strategic”, and to get more respect for their team’s contributions to business success.

A business leader’s true strategic importance is not judged by their words or position on the organisation chart. It’s measured by their actual impact on business results.

Increase your understanding of the business and how you can take a longer term, “big picture” approach to HR to participate as a contributing partner in the organisation’s strategic planning process. Learn how to solve business problems through the effective use of people strategies, so you can become an active and effective business leader who can directly impact major business initiatives.

Jennifer will cover 7 high-impact areas where HR has an opportunity to add significant value, and contribute to the achievement of their organisation’s strategic plan.

  1. Workforce Planning
  2. Attracting & Recruiting Talent
  3. Retaining Key Employees
  4. Developing Future Leaders
  5. Improving Employee Engagement
  6. Creating A Great Place To Work
  7. Communicating Like An Executive
The Future of HR: Creating Competitive Advantage Through Innovative People Strategies
The business and economic climate continues to change at a pace faster than ever before, and as a result, the competencies and capabilities required of HR leaders must also evolve in order to directly impact business results and deliver a strong competitive advantage for their organisation.

HR leaders must know the business, focus strategically, solve business problems and understand how to influence change in order to effectively align human resources with the organisation’s strategic plan, establish key relationships and drive maximum impact on results. HR leaders who master these skills will deliver more value – and find greater executive support – within their organisations.

Transforming HR at the World’s Biggest Generic Pharmaceutical Company
When Teva’s workforce grew from 7,000 to 57,000, the Israel-headquartered company turned to SAP SuccessFactors to harmonise HR across 80 countries and 87 manufacturing facilities.

Teva’s goal was to develop and enable the workforce of the future as they build a consumer-centric organisation - all while reducing costs across the business. Employee Central was implemented to give every HR team member and manager complete visibility and data transparency, making it easier for managers to identify top performers, create development plans and integrate new employees.

The changes have directly influenced the ability to manage staff retention and succession planning. Teva also uses SF Performance & Goals, resulting in one unified performance management system for both employee and manager.

  • Aligning with evolving business needs – transforming HR, implementing SuccessFactors, managing employee data and core people processes in one integrated environment and approach
  • Teva’s guiding principles for the SF project, its implementation approach and plan
  • Tangible lessons learned and resolving fundamental challenges – I.e. defining the role of the manager and the role of the HR manager
Ensuring Maximum Value of SuccessFactors While Keeping up Technology Changes Along the Way
Teva’s business is expanding rapidly, while in parallel the organisation is going through an extensive transformation and massive changes in ways of working. One of the objectives of the HR transformation in Teva was to address the evolving business needs by implementing cross suite and managing employees’ data and core people processes in one integrated environment and approach. In the past three years, we have been setting the foundation of core people processes to enable Business efficiency. As part of the HR foundation we have invested millions of dollars in the technology, in process design, and implementation.

Business efficiency is reflected in operational excellence, cost effective and positive customer’s experience - now it’s time to realise the return on this investment. Teva’s long term plan is to bring value to the business by meeting the business needs, by optimising the processes & technology, and by having a high adoption of the processes and the system by HR, managers AND employees.
In order to support the evolving needs of the organisation, and to catch up on technology improvements, all while managing those changes in an integrated approach - we have established the Global CCB, Change Control Board to overlook business needs, to assess and manage the potential improvements in the entire SF suite.

In this session Sarah will share Teva's approach and plan for SF cross suite value realisation and Teva's mode of operations to improve the customers experience while optimising SuccessFactors.

Deep Dive: SAP & Single Touch Payroll: Is Your Organisation Ready?
With the introduction of the ATO's Single Touch Payroll from mid-2018, now is the time to start thinking about its impacts for your business.

Single Touch Payroll is being introduced by the Australian Tax Office (ATO) to provide real time visibility over the accuracy and timeliness of organisations’ payroll processes. STP proposes to streamline the reporting of employee salary and wages, tax and superannuation obligations for employers.

The ATO has been working with SAP and other payroll software developers to refine specifications and test the solutions, in preparation for go-live.

In this session, you will hear from both SAP and the ATO as they deep dive into what STP means for you and what you should be doing to prepare.

This extended session will also provide you the opportunity to ask your most burning questions to both parties.

Maximising ESS/MSS to Achieve Optimum Payroll Efficiency
SAP ESS/MSS is an incredibly powerful tool which can greatly reduce the transactional nature of a Payroll Team. At Insurance Australia Group over a period of 5 years we enhanced the ESS/MSS functionality by developing a suite of On Line forms using Adobe forms and Web Dyn Pro which transformed the Payroll function.

Ray will discuss the development of ESS/MSS from an employee initiated transaction and manager approval function to Managers using MSS to create new records ranging from employee master data to organisation units and new positions

By removing the low value add transactional nature of payroll we were able to reduce the Payroll Staff to employee ratio. These things are possible if you have the right team and the right attitude!

Driving a Learning Culture Change: Implementing a LMS at Australian Unity
In recent years, Australian Unity has changed considerably in both size and make up of workforce. In particular, the location of the workforce is now highly dispersed, and as such a shift was needed to change how they approached development of our people. A number of other factors, including a lack of learning strategy, a need for an effective capability framework and the desire to create a strategy that aligns existing and technology initiatives contributed to the decision to implement the LMS.

A number of initiatives had already been started, including the LMS implementation, so the goal was to align these initiatives towards AU’s new approach to learning; as well as with their wider organisational strategy.

AU identified key elements of successful learning organisations to establish where they wanted to go, then used the initiatives to help get them there.

David will share the journey of how Australian Unity set about creating a new approach to learning, using the LMS as a key enabler.

Extending SuccessFactors in the Cloud - and How Not to Do It
SaaS's kindergarten mantra of "You get what you get and you don't get upset" is all well and good, but what if you want more? One of SAP SuccessFactors' strengths compared to its competition is the ease with which it allows extension. Chris will share what he has learnt not to do* from the last 4 years of balancing on the bleeding edge of this ability.

* Chris may also share a little about what is good to do as well.

Rethinking Employee Performance Management – The Biggest Lessons Learnt After Implementing SuccessFactors Performance & Goals
Effectively managing employee performance has never been more critical. So when Christchurch City Council moved from an in-house developed system to a vanilla out-of-the-box cloud tool - they used an agile approach to ensure continued collaboration with the business, and were laser focused on cementing long term benefits for IT, the business and the team.

The solution has lowered maintenance costs and improved system usability by giving users a better interface to work with. It has allowed the business users to take stronger ownership of the tool and given them more control over their changes. The implementation of the SuccessFactors system has stream lined many (previous clunky) processes related to performance reviews, given the business the right tools to continuously improve workforce performance, plus the ability to evaluate and recognise top talent.

CCC attribute their success to selecting the right solution and having good change management. Geoff and Ash will give you insights as to where they came from to where they are now and how much it has improved reporting on personal performance and having less IT intervention for system issues.

Attracting and Retaining a Gender Diverse Technology Workforce
It’s no secret that workforce gender balance is a challenge for the tech industry, but it is naïve to think that organisations and tech leaders don’t have a role in encouraging and supporting diversity.

In just 12 months AGL - Information Systems & Technology (IST) have achieved a 10% increase (24% to 34%) of females in their Senior Leadership pipeline.

Kellie will examine the value of a gender diverse technology workforce, the barriers to females entering technology and then progressing to senior roles.

  • Increasing the focus on gender diversity with monthly gender diversity dashboard reporting, a standing agenda on the IST Leadership Team (IST LT) meeting and support from senior leaders across the enterprise
  • Significant changes to recruitment practices including use of a gender decoder, partnerships with recruitment organisations targeted at female candidates and focused targeting of female technology talent
  • Corporate sponsorship of Vic ICT for Women and Females in Technology & Telecommunications
  • Sponsorship and mentoring programs
  • Leadership development programs

Machine Learning and SAP: OSR’s Insights into Managing Customer Behaviour Through Data
OSR recently collaborated in a proof of concept exercise with SAP to trial machine learning. They opted to apply machine learning to improving management of debt collection. The aim was to determine how to use a machine to develop strategies that prevent debts arising and to tailor collection processes.

SAP’s approach to machine learning makes it easy to start because of an easily understood approach to data modelling. The latest SAP analytics and GUI features allow excellent visualisation of data and they support rapid development so you can get information out to people in time for them to make effective decisions.

Learning to use data better leads to business improvements. Machine learning has allowed OSR to speed things along and free up staff to work on higher value tasks - things the machine cannot do (yet). Machine learning also identifies new opportunities and approaches. By better automating the simple tasks and allowing the machine to suggest new approaches you can make your staff more effective.

Machine learning has specific use cases and applications, and despite the mystery and hype, has real-world applications, even in a mundane environment of tax and revenue management! Attendees will leave with an understanding of what it is and it is not, and perhaps even be inspired to apply machine learning to their own environments.

Roundtable Discussion: How are Customers Dealing with Indirect Licensing?
In recent times Indirect Licensing concerns have been top of mind for SAP customers, especially after some adverse legal judgements overseas. The general advice is to always consult your SAP account executive. But we know that this doesn’t always bring clarity to every situation. Technologies that connect data with SAP systems such as IoT (Internet of Things), robotics process automation, and mobility add further complexity and licensing questions.

How do customers and partners take indirect licensing into account with their SAP implementations and enhancements? How do you ensure you are not exposing yourself to expensive licensing claims if integrating third party systems or solutions with your SAP instance? How should you engage with SAP to get the appropriate clarity required?

Join this intimate and interactive roundtable discussion share your views, discuss your challenges and hear views from those with experience on THE hot topic of the moment for the global SAP community.

This session will be facilitated by SAP Mentor (alumnus) John Moy. Please note places are limited for this session, hosted once each day of the conference.

Thriving in the Digital Economy: Are You Digitising or Digitalising?
The digital economy has been both a significant positive trend in the world and a big headache for many entrepreneurs who do not want to fall behind. It is no longer enough for organisations to focus on process improvements or cost reduction. To thrive in the digital economy, it is critical to be able to look for new opportunities, find and exploit them. It is also essential to develop profound insights into customer journeys and new opportunities for how to serve customers better (and more frequently) in the future. Many of the opportunities emerge thanks to the latest trends in business, technology, and society.

In his session, Marek will talk about the significant difference between digitising and digitalising a business, and discuss where and when each of the two approaches is important. He will introduce “jobs-to-be-done” as a new way of looking at customer needs, creating a broader perspective beyond product features and industry boundaries. And finally, he will cover the concept of systemic ideation, allowing organisations to approach innovation in a much more predictable way. In his presentation, Marek will bring together the technology and business topics discussed during the conference, to help organisations develop successful strategies.

Prof. Marek Kowalkiewicz has spent the last ten years working with small and large businesses, governments and individuals in Australia, Singapore and Silicon Valley. He has been helping them to address challenges and identify opportunities brought by the digital economy. Marek is an SAP Mentor (#255), a Professor in Digital Economy at QUT, a board member, and a start-up founder. He is passionate about understanding how trends in business, technology, and communities change the way we live, work, and think.

Alisdair will discuss the new offerings from SAP and how they can help you get your IoT projects up and running. Hear how edge services allow for localised decision making and management of large data volumes through aggregation and filtering, while the SAP Cloud Platform IoT Services can deliver complex insights into your business processes via Predictive Analytics and Machine Learning.

Finally, Alisdair will examine the concept of the "digital twin" and how this will become central to complex IoT implementations, providing business, application and technical views of our connected devices.
